On April fools Day the Catholic Church and indigenous leaders met with the spirit of reconciliation in mind however the popes apology fell short. Pope Francis only apologized for the actions of certain members of the church, failing to acknowledge the religions involvement in the planning, orchestrating and carrying the gruesome practice of residential schools and the generational loss of language, culture and spirituality. All together the apology showed little remorse and was followed up by an empty plea for forgiveness while again undermining the countless lives lost at the hands of the church. In my eyes the church’s back-handed apology mentioned nothing of land back or recourse for the historical wrongs and judiciary responsibility of the church to the indigenous people of turtle island. If reconciliation is to be achieved the church must follow up with a mass repatriation of land, international recognition of indigenous spirituality and trillions in compensation for all those touched by residential schools and the evils of colonialism, and the revoking of pilpul bulls and doctrine of discovery that dehumanized and entire continent and enabled slavery and genocide in Turtle Island.

Justice delayed is justice denied. As stated earlier the indigenous peoples visiting the pope failed to get him to rescind the doctrine of discovery. If that had happened, then there could have been some kind of legal bearing on our land theft claims. Anything short of this is a failure. We are disappointed in our people for stopping short of the goal. These 30 delegates do not speak for the resistance which is a huge factor. They lack the representation to speak for the majority of indigenous nations. Symbolic actions lead to no material gain for the people. It’s like were so quick to get to feeling special, so used to being tokenized that a few of us shake the popes hand and forget about 530 years of genocide? Forget future generations? Are we this obsessed with celebrities of various sorts? That we forget that 10,000 of our children have been exhumed from graves after being murdered by the church. Where is talk of reparations? Only 2 million in restitution has been paid. They went all that way to dance off the tension of colonialism? Is this all we can do now? Have we become this impotent or did they send the wrong natives to the Vatican? An sum so high that it can never be paid is what we are owed. We are surviving an ongoing genocide and our numbers are growing. We want everything that was taken from us back, its all ours. Nothing he has is really his. His scalp is even worthless. Hes already been scalped, he has no hair. The great mystery scalped him for us. What kind of mind is celebrating this visit to the Vatican? A colonized one. Those uncolonized amongst us are furious. Those wild ones. We refuse to forget. We are not broken enough to forget. They are just attempting to pacify us and deny us justice again. Look at the words being used “reconciliation” The restorations of friendly relations? There never was friendly relations. They sent murderers, child rapists and thieves. “Conciliation” The action of stopping someone from being angry. We will not stop being angry. That is just yet another attempt to control us. Anger is the proper catalyst to getting the justice the seek to continue to deny us. “Conciliatory” Intended or likely to placate or pacify. Just because the pope says justice doesn’t mean he means it. These are the ones responsible for the worlds greatest lie, how on earth are you going to be so gullible as to believe him. Furthermore he didn’t even apologize because if he did it would admit fault or responsibility. The Catholic church leaves a trail of dead babies wherever it goes. If they are sick enough to do this to Europeans then clearly they will have no qualms doing it to other races. We got to drop the Stockholm’s syndrome and produce a realistic political analasyis as a people. Another instance found 97 infants buried under a bathhouse in Rome. These ideas are the birthplace of the patterns of behavior that caused and perpetuate the legalized theft of indigenous children and children of color that is plaguing Turtle Island.
