Several tribes have brought lawsuit against “Wisconsin” Fish And Wildlife. A long time has past since Eddie Benton Banai using Ojibway spirituality to advocate for wolves in the so called great lake region especially “Wisconsin”. The efforts of tribes like the Niimipu reintroducing wolves, Warm Springs tolerating and coexisting with wolves despite the influence of colonial European bovine and rodeo culture. We are seeing the ripple effect. Spirituality, thoughts ideas manifesting themselves into reality. Colville having a wolf hunt and refusing to fill the tags. Marches and round dance flash mobs in 2012 to 2014 by Ojibway, Anishinabe etc. A decade of resistance with hundreds of direct actions in the name of the wolf by Illahee Spirit Runners. At. I.S.R we seen these attacks on our relatives as reason to rebel. We seen Fon Du Lac, White Earth and then Eastern Shoshone declare wolf hunting on their lands prohibited. They decided to flex their tribal sovereignty and expand that with a 30 mile buffer. Now lawsuits by tribes. Variety of tactics. The creativity of the indigenous of Turtle Island.
I am Makade Miigwan . ” Black Feather”, Sokaogon Chippewa Community .
6 Wisconsin Tribes are opposed to the recreational hunting of our wolf brothers. The hunt is to start on my birthday, November 6th, 2021. This hurts. My prayer is that wolves remain for my grandchildren and onward through the generations. My senses were heightened one autumn day in 2012. I insisted we get out on the road about 6 a.m. About 10 miles away from the cabin, a magnificent large white wolf was in a clearing, presumably hunting breakfast. Wolf has no choice but the hunt. We have no choice in the fight for a livable future. Perhaps to close to the houses for people who have forgotten how to coexist.
I spoke with Peter David today. Wildlife Biologist @ Great Lakes Indian Fish & Wildlife Commission.
Wolves were federally delisted through a gerrymandered republican vote in 2012. ” What happens to our wolf brothers happens to us” , to humanity.
In a very practical way, wolves provide a vast cultural – spiritual resource, and vital life giving ecological services. Maiingun ( wolf) is the Culler of the deer herds, preventing Chronic Wasting Disease, ( CWD).
There is scientific data that supports Wolf halting the spread of Lyme disease from ticks/ deer ticks.
Sound science with a spiritual dimension. Western civilization must catch up with indigenous knowledge. Namely, the Ojibwe story of creation. Wolf and Anishinaabe become brothers. Family.
Perseverance, beauty and mystery destroyed by ” sport hunters” with dogs.
An out of state ( Kansas ) hunting advocacy group sued to begin an early ” hunt” of wolves that overlaps with mating and the estrus of she wolf. February 2020.
The numbers game and why the tribes are suing:
The lawsuit ( 6 WI tribes) allege that the quota set at 300 wolves was a punch in the face, a deliberate move to nullify the tribes share, earlier set at 74( state) 56 ( tribes) in an effort to protect wolves.
This is not science.
This is political. Power seeking more. Theres no science about it.
The ” wolf hunt ” that uses dogs to track ( and get paid 2500 $ per dead dog) bolsters the “bear hunt ” that also uses dogs.
And ” bear baiting”. Bear baiting consists of baiting bears in, with garbage food like cookies, donuts, candy. The Humane Society has sued previously for over the use of domestic dogs.
Vicious leg hold traps. Snares. That slowly suffocate the wolf and turn their brains into ” jelly” Flex that tribal sovereignty.
Unify with the six WI tribes that utilize their wolf tags to protect wolves.
Illahee Political Analysis would be that these lawsuits are not enough because they do not challenge the very systems responsible which are mainly colonialism, but also to significant degree capitalism and civilization. In fact this kind of thing actually bolsters the very colonizers we want abolished, defeated and overturned. We w encourage people to join Illahee Spirit Runners to continue to make confrontation against these illegitimate agencies because political change requires force. To build with us to enhance our efforts in self determination to restore the land as the #RightfulStewards. Wildlife conservation is largely an all white affair and wildlife meetings although we do not support them as they are illegitimate we must note their lack of Indigenous, Africans and others. This is no accident but the result of eugenics projects designed to conserve wildlands for white nordic people. Prime indigenous hunting grounds such as Teton turned into a national park where we seen forced removal of indigenous people and even the prohibition of African peoples from entering national parks under Jim Crow law. Revolution means physical and material change so naturally like the lightning teaches us, it may be shocking to the compromised but we grew and came back more powerful.
We should seek to rival them, to replace them and reclaim our place as #RightfulStewards and welcome collaboration from everyone who believes in indigenous rule. We must get control over our own destinies on our own land. We are a pan indigenous alliance and we want all Fish and Wildlife, B.L.M, Forestry Service, Department Of Natural Resources relinquished and turned over intact and in good condition to the indigenous resistance along with pre colonial indigenous governance. We intend to struggle against neo colonialism and we are revolutionary rather than reformist. It is imperative that our message be received by the masses. Show solidarity by joining Illahee Spirit Runners.
Update: In an unprecedented move, the Department of Natural Resources announced Monday, Oct 4th a quota of 130 wolves for the 2021 Wisconsin fall wolf hunting and trapping season, less than half as many as the Natural Resources Board approved in August.
It’s the first time the DNR has altered a quota after the NRB had voted on one, according to long-time DNR employees, past board members and the agency itself.
